What is dance? If it only consisted of graceful movements to rhythmical music, it couldn't speak to heart. Dance is something universal, especially belly dancing, the origins of which date back to old Egyptian fertility dances. Childless women danced it before the temple and afterwards, it is said, her wish for a child was fulfilled. Today this ritual is no longer practised. However, belly dancing, even if a form of entertainment, still emits its magical strength.
Seiya first came to know oriental dance during her theatrical education. Her first teacher Saida (Susanne Brenner, co-founder of the Federal Association for Oriental Dance) introduced her to this dance form. Since that time Seiya has not only loved this dance, she lives it. Completely.
“For me, dance is an expression of an uncontrollable desire to live. Everything becomes one in the dance, the soul becomes light. I am encompassed and fulfilled by the music. The rhythm lets me forget space and time. Joy flows through the space. I enjoy passing this energy of life on to my audience for the duration of my performance. I become the dance which I dance … and at the most magical moments I sense this energy moving among the spectators. And then I feel that they are carrying the dance in their hearts, that they have a sense of the ease and joy of life.”
